Mistaken identity

Have I mentioned how I may not exactly be a morning person? Mornings and I get along only by a strict policy of avoidance. We don't look each in the other eye and one of us always leaves the room when the other walks in.

So this morning following my standard operating procedure of running late, I took a cab to work instead of the save-the-environment-while-saving-money-for-happy-hour option of public transport.

Inject tangent here but a relevant tangent I promise! The place I work at happens to be located not in the usual office area within the Central Business District but at the heart of the clubbing district of the city, smack among the bars and nightspots. Go figure. So anyway, end of tangent and back to the story at hand.

The cabbie drops me off at the taxi stand and says, "Wah! You start work so early ah!" (To be said in a Singlish accent). I was a little taken aback because this coming from my boss could rightly be construed as sarcasm, but from a cabbie? Giving him the benefit of doubt, I said, "No, actually I'm really late. Office starts at 9:30am." He blinks and goes, "Oh, you work in an office, ah!"
